Indians watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in an 8-2 loss to Oconee County on Thursday. Oconee County scored on a single by Ava Moon in the first inning, a error in the second inning, and a single by Ashton Aycock in the second inning.

The Indians struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Oconee County, giving up eight runs.

Oconee County fired up the offense in the first inning. Moon drove in one when he singled.

Oconee County scored three runs in the fourth inning. Oconee County batters contributing to the big inning included Chloe Middlebrooks, Moon, and Avery Mercer, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Kate Newberry led the Oconee County to victory in the pitcher’s circle. He went seven innings, allowing two runs on nine hits, striking out one and walking zero.

Allie Huff took the loss for Indians. He lasted seven innings, allowing 12 hits and eight runs while striking out seven.

Indians collected nine hits on the day. Samara Walker, Laney McGee, and Jasmine Lowery each managed multiple hits for Indians. Walker led Indians with three hits in three at bats.

Oconee County tallied 12 hits on the day. Aycock, Moon, Middlebrooks, and Madison Hawkins each collected multiple hits for Oconee County. Aycock went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Oconee County in hits. Oconee County was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Ashlyn Holbert made the most plays with five.
