Indians Lose Region Opener

The Stephens County Indians Football team had a four game winning streak going into Friday’s region game with Monroe Area, and after a blocking a punt for a TD, looked as if they could ride that momentum into a region win. But the momentum stopped there, as the Indians lost 41-21. The Indians really couldn’t seem to get anything going on either side of the ball all night. “Self inflicted mistakes and good play by Monroe Area were the major factors” in the lackluster performance by the Indians according to Coach Tank. “For whatever reason we did not play as well as we could in any phase of the game”, Coach Tank said after the game.
Even though the Indians weren’t having their best night they continued to battle throughout the game, and had opportunities to really get back in the game but couldn’t take advantage. Coach Tank said “ we are encouraged to see that the team continued to play even in the face of adversity, but we as a team must be more mentally focused if we want to get into the playoffs.”

Some standout plays on the night for the Indians included a long TD reception on a screen to Gamarion Carter, a blocked punt and TD return by Javian Hightower, and an Interception return for a TD by Bryson Trimier.

Players of the Game were:
Offense- Kenny Colwell
Defense- Bryson Trimier
Special Teams- Javian Hightower
Lineman- Raven Wilson
Practice/Effort- Jarvis Thompson

The Indians will return to action this Friday at Franklin County.
