Coed Wrestling Wrestling · Wrestling travels to Franklin and grabs a split

On Tuesday wrestling went down to Franklin for a tri-match between Franklin County and Hart County. This was going to be a huge area tri-match with area duals seeding implications.

The first dual of the night was against Franklin County. After seeing each other several times on the year all wrestlers knew their opponents very well on both teams so it made it a very tight dual. The final score was 39-39 and the decision came to the sixth criteria based off forfeits which Stephens had none and Franklin had 3. With this Stephens gains the extra overtime point and won the dual 40-39. Stephen Kinsey, Ben Beady, and Nick Randall won by pin fall. The Indians won 7 out of 14 weight classes by pin fall, decision, or forfeit.

The second dual of the night was against a very strong and improved Hart County team. Stephens lost the dual 18-61. Ben Beady, Nick Randall, and Tyler Fulbright all won by pin fall. The Indians won 3 out of 14 weight classes.

After the match Coach Honeycutt had this to say:

”We came down to battle with two very good teams and were able to come out with a split. I do not feel we wrestled our best tonight, but knowing this team we will hit the mat room tomorrow and make sure that we make up for it and learn from our mistakes. We have amazing wrestlers on this team and leaders are starting to step up at the right moment. We will work hard this week and go into this Saturday at Area Duals at Oconee County High School with our best foot forward and our best line up ready to go out and do their best. We have always and will always strive to be the best team we possibly can on and off the mat.”
